The Four Branches of the Mabinogion

The 'Mabinogion' is a classic collection of Welsh myths, legends and fantasies mixed with history. First written down around 900 years ago, they are stories of the trials and tribulations of ancient kings and warriors of the British Isles.

At the core of the Mabinogion lie the 'Four Branches'. These particular tales were the inspiration for 'Rhiannon - Beyond the Mabinogion'. Among other themes, they relate the life of Pryderi, a warrior Prince of Dyfed - and of his relationship with his father, King Pwyll and mother Rhiannon.

They tell also of Pryderi and Rhiannon's feud with the evil wizard Llwyd Cil Coed. This began with Llwyd's humiliation at Pryderi's hand and ended with Llwyd being forced to swear that he would not take revenge during Pryderi's lifetime.

But he made no such promise about what would happen after their deaths.
